As Chair Person of Judo Ireland, the youngest judo organisation in this side of the world I want to take this opportunity to tell you all about a very important lady, a role model to girls growing up in the world of Judo in Ireland.
A lady who has not only shown commitment to the sport of Judo, but also to her childhood club in Renmore, she has also been heavily involved with the Judo Club in UCG and has earned her place as coach of the Knocknacarra Club. But today this lady, Méadhbh Weldon deserves the biggest congratulations of all, because today Méadhbh after coming through the ranks of Judo from childhood, earned the title of first Judo Ireland Female Judoka Black Belt.
Méadhbh earned her points in competition to allow her to complete the Kata grading, which took place today in Galway.
A true heart felt congratulations to you Méadhbh. Well done.
Méadhbh was presented with her belt which has her name stitched in Japanese. See pictures below, along with her grading papers & grade record licence.
